A Tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart and Walter Koenig

We lost two pillars of the "Star Trek" universe this week with the passing of Walter Koenig and Sir Patrick Stewart. The crew reflects on their roles, impact and lives.

Bye. Bye. Hey, y'all. It's me, Tara Strong, a.k.a. Miss Minutes for Bama Geeks. I hope you're ready to watch, and if you don't, I will have to prune you. Stay on your sacred timeline. And good Sunday evening to you. Hope you're doing well. We're the Bama Geeks. I'm Brock. That's Jess and Kevin and Bo. We're all here. We are back together. We are sad this week. It's been a tough, tough week, especially if you're a big Star Trek fan. But before you get into that. Yeah. I got spoilers. Come from the future. Okay. I'm telling you some spoilers on the next Avengers movie coming out at the end of this year. Okay. The true villain in the movie is Miss Minutes. Well. She needs a big role. She needs a big role because she is on our intro. That's right. She's the villain. Well, we hope you guys are doing well. Of course, we are going to be talking Star Trek tonight and Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart. And those were not the only Star Trek deaths this week. There were three this week alone. One is a guest star. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but anyway, before we get into the sadness, uh, be sure to, to comment, to tell us some of your, your Star Trek memories. Um, you know, that's, that's what we want to do. We wanted to engage in a discussion with you and we thank you so much for being here. And, uh, Skylar is already here. Skylar Davis is having fun. One of our really good friends got to be here for any Star Trek talk. Rest in peace, Patrick and Walter. Absolutely. Absolutely. We're going to be talking about that tonight. But before we jump into it, of course, we've got to do the housekeeping. Head over to BamaGeeks.com. That's our website. At Bama Geeks, that's social media. If you're on Facebook, look up the Bama Geeks front porch. That's our private group. Hop on in there. We'll let you in there. And, of course, we always like to say hello to our longtime members, Jamie, Mike, Jack, and happy birthday, Darnay. It's Darnay Day. It's Darnay Day. That's right. Happy Darnay Day. And thank you while you're sitting here. Like I said, just speaking of Jamie, there she is. She is here. Hey, Jamie. So thank you. There you go. How are you, dears? So good to see you. Yeah, yesterday was Halloween. Today is Darnay's birthday. So, you know, we got to keep the celebration rolling all weekend. Yes. That's right. And we're, we're finding joyous moments and in the midst of the sadness a little bit. So, I mean, Darnay's mom was, was, was grateful enough and is hardcore enough to Halloween that she waited until she gave out all the candy before she had it. That is an amazing woman. She still wanted one day for herself for the candy before she had ruined in Halloween. I wonder if she got any trick or treaters in the hospital while she was waiting. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. Maybe. So, yeah, tonight we're discussing Star Trek. Star Trek is, first and foremost, my first fandom. My first love ever was Star Trek. My original sleeping bag was a Star Trek sleeping bag. I still have it. uh i cannot fit in it anymore but i still have it and uh i think mcdonald's at back in the back in the seventies when they were putting out uh star trek the motion picture i think they had like little iron-ons that you could put on your shirt i thought didn't they have at one point did they have a happy meal was it not i don't know if it was the first movie but it was one of them yeah it was I believe so. Yeah. But I have like iron ons from McDonald's of Spock. I don't know where it is, but I remember seeing it a few years ago. But, uh, yeah. Um, huge, huge loss this week. Shocking, shocking loss at that. It was sad enough. Uh, Walter Koenig Chekhov, uh, from the original series. Um, passed away and then two three days later we got word of patrick stewart captain picard and uh picard is the first next generation main cast member to leave us yeah he was he was the oldest correct well i mean i mean i know that doesn't always play a factor but yes i think he was the oldest yeah yeah and he's actually the first star trek captain Oh, that's right. I didn't even think about that. Oh, wow. Yeah, we still got Shatner and still got Kate Mulgrew and Avery Brooks. Scott Bakula. Scott Bakula. I mean, Anson Mount. Discovery. I can't think of her name. Sneak with. Yeah, Burnham. Captain Burnham. Anson Mound's going to outlive us, I think. Oh, well. That dude's like. His hair will. I was about to say, like, his hair just, it's, yeah. You know, it's, I know our, you know, our main gear and our topic of conversation is Star Trek, but this year has been kind of tough overall. Oh, in general, yes. I mean, there's been some pretty heavy losses in my fandoms. I mean, Catherine O'Hara, Dolly Parton. I mean, some shocking. Dolly Parton was a big one, man. Some shocking losses. Yes. Tim Curry. Tim Curry. So, wow. Pee Wee Herman? Yep. No, Paul Reardon. Was it last year? yeah no no no yeah that was a couple years ago for paul oh yeah my bad you're good all right it was this documentary that came out yeah hit me just now okay sorry my bad look my my short-term memory ain't worth anything right now this age yeah um when it comes to uh to walter nuclear vessels of course uh clear vessels or whistles yeah yeah nuclear vessels because it is the thing is is like you know the voyage home is is kind of like voyage home is the original star trek movies is temple of doom is to Indiana Jones. You know, people are like, you know, there's only like a certain amount of people that are like really, you know, big into supporting it. That's the, Voice Home is still my favorite original next to Wrath of Khan, you know? Yeah. And just that whole deal where you got the Russian guy that's trying to get into it. Yes. In the eighties, this is the eighties in the freaking Cold War. Yeah. he was like he was like one of the best if not the best like character in that movie he was amazing he definitely had his part and that one and even though it's it's at the time i understood they were going for dramatic effect but like the the uh the first movie the motion pictures the photon torpedo Shoot us up, Gipton. Computer? Jamie says Patrick Stewart passing away has been rough. My son said Patrick Stewart was a legend. Oh, absolutely. He was the best CIA director ever. His whole involvement in American Dad was the greatest. Walter was ninety. You know, he had a rough go of it. Lost his son, Andrew, a few years ago. Yeah. Of course, he played Bonner on Growing Pains in the eighties. So, I mean, he, but just a sweetheart of a guy. Nineteen ninety five. Let me pull this up here. Nineteen ninety five. This fresh face kid. This is in New Brockton, Alabama. Look at that guy. New Brockton, for those of you who don't know, and that will be everybody, New Brockton is right outside of Enterprise, of all places, in southeast Alabama. That's actually where I was born. It's probably why I'm a Star Trek fan, because I was born in Enterprise. But New Brockton sits right outside. It's a blink and miss it town. But for some reason, they had a small Star Trek convention there and got Walter Koenig to show up. And so I got to go and meet him. That's my mom taking the picture. Everybody's laughing except the dude with the mustache and the gold necklace in the back. Look at that guy. He's too cool to laugh. He looks like he's dressed as Lawrence Fishburne from that GIF, you know. Sorry, but anyway. I ain't got no time for you, Jive. We're all laughing at this picture because, I mean, you know, you go to these meet and greets or whatever, and this was, as you can see in the corner there, this was February eighteenth of nineteen ninety five. I've got on my Star Trek Generation shirt. In front of Walter, there is my script for, uh, generations that I had him assign. Um, anyway, uh, You know, these meet and greets, you take one picture, you're done. Well, mom, I don't know if she was pretending she couldn't get the camera right or whatever, but she took a couple of these pictures and he's like, oh, you're taking a lot. That's what I got everybody laughing. I'm just impressed your mom remembered to set the time, to set the date on the picture. Oh, dude, once that technology came into play, she didn't live without it. the amount of home movies people have with the time stamp on them which at the time seemed like an inconvenience but now I like it for documenting purposes except that I would always forget and it would be like set to you know yeah like the VCR clock but Walter was a really sweet guy and he was funny so funny um but that was the picture of us together he signed my script but he also signed this nice you know had to get my of course the monster maroon my monster maroon i had to have him in that so yeah i have mine sitting over there somewhere mine's not the same photo but yeah because he was at dragon con a few years back and i finally got that i was like you know what this is the autograph i need to get yeah yeah I just realized we lost both Chekhovs now. We do. We don't. Yes. Both Chekhovs are gone. Antonin. Antonin. Yeltsin. Yeah. That was his name? Yeah. Yeah, that was a freak accident. He was in his twenties and a Jeep came out of park and backed into him. Yeah. So we are out of Chekhovs. It's funny, like I said, Chekhov has been part of the Star Trek so much, but he wasn't even in the first season. Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, looking, just looking back at the creation of, you know, he was brought in to appeal to a younger audience at that time, back in the, and he was modeled after Davy Jones. Yeah. The monkey's wig. Yeah. Yeah. Oh man. What a wig. That was horrible. That was horrible. Bless his heart. But, you know, I know that I've heard him say that. you know it was even still even controversial in that time to have you know russian oh yes no on tv like that as well and but he was you know most of the letters that he stated that he got you know were from the younger fans of the show and from the you know the the younger uh audience that watched the show and just really loved the character but yeah And that was the beautiful thing about Star Trek, though. I mean, they pushed it. I mean, the first interracial kiss ever on television was between Kirk and Uhura. Yeah, yeah. Star Trek is definitely one of the things about the franchise and the series and everything, the creation as a whole, is pushing those boundaries. And the inclusivity of... of just the whole setting. That's a part of the franchise. I guess it is a very, except for the time frame, it was a show. It did what it did. The cool thing about it is it did it. People learned on their own. That's why I like my entertainment. You want thought-provoking TV, but not be slapping you in the face with it. It did it in a way to learn. I like it like that. Of course, though, this is the same show where they would encounter Abraham Lincoln in space, but you know. It is what it is. Thank goodness there was no social media back then. It would have blown it out of proportion. Because the thing is, if you watch the episode where you get the first interracial kiss, you didn't go and broadcast it to the world. You talked to your family about it. You talked to your friends about it, which is honestly where that sort of conversation should be. It should be broadcast to the whole world. A more organic conversation. Yes, exactly. Granted, I'm getting into a whole different thing here. No, no, no. That's the difference between when you have a show that pushes the boundaries of some sort of topic today versus then. Then it was more organic. Now it's more forced. It feels like it's more... You know that it's going to be reacted to immediately on social media. Everybody's going to have a feeling about it. It's going to get out of hand. Whereas the difference would be when that episode aired, like Beau said, it was more organic. You got to talk to your friends about it. What did you feel about it? And approach it from the perspective of, let's just talk about it instead of like, let's rage about it. Exactly. Yeah. That's what we talk more to as we get more into the Patrick side of the, of the, of the discussion. Cause a lot of, a lot of next gen episodes, especially involving him were very thought provoking. So yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very much so. Yeah, so that's, I mean, with Walter's passing, I mean, that leaves two of the original cast members left. You've got William Shatner and George Takei, the two that hate each other. I saw a fun comment. Someone said, well, George Takei is going to try to outlive Shatner just for spite. Well, we've, uh, you know, and we've got, we had our picture made with Shatner a couple of years ago in Huntsville. And then what was it last year? Last year, last year. When he came back and we, uh, I'd had his autograph before. Um, I've got him and Nimoy, but I've only got them on index cards. So I put them with a collage together, but I didn't have a personalized one from Shatner, um, until last year. And he was absolutely fun to me. I mean, the man's ninety five. Still sharp as a tack. Sharp. And even and even just his physical appearance. Yes, I give him that. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, looking at, you know, you can always kind of be a little misled, you know, seeing him on TV or anything like that. But even in person, it's like this man's ninety years old. And he's looked the same for at least the last thirty years. I know for sure. He completes the crossword puzzle every day. Keeps them sharp. I think that's one of his things. He has like a pure photographic memory, correct? I think that's what he's talked about. That's what he's talked about. Like he can absorb stuff. Yeah. Yeah. The guy that was in front of us, we related this story after we met him, but the guy that was in front of us was, you know, I forget what the guy was saying, but, you know, Shatner jumped into Kirk mode and, you know, stand tall, cadet, you know, and the guy snapped to attention or whatever, and then he wanted to take a picture with him, and he goes, the guy goes around behind the table to take the picture and puts his arm around Shatner, and Shatner goes, oh, no, no, no, no, I don't know where that arm's been. Yeah, Shatner's one of them. And what was funny was when Brock and I had our picture made with him, we had this moment of like, we stepped in there to get our picture and he was looking for somebody. He was asking about somebody that I guess worked at the con that had kind of been working in the photo area because he was asking where this person was. And we're just like. OK, we're just kind of looking at him like, OK, we're going to get our picture made because, you know, they were rushed. They were, you know, running people. They were nice. Nice to meet you all. Yeah. Nice to meet you all. Yeah. I was like, OK, nice to meet you, too. Oh, my God. Jamie says I missed out on Leonard Nimoy, my first call in two thousand nine. That was here. I met Patrick, sir. Yeah. The year before I started going to DragonCon, Leonard was at that one. That's the last time he went, and I never got a chance to meet him again. I hate that so much. I so wanted to meet Leonard. Yeah, Jamie, was that DragonCon? Because Patrick was there as well as Nimoy in O-Nine. That was the first year I met Patrick Stewart was in two thousand nine. I'd met Nimoy in ninety four in Orlando. My my high school graduation present, which I've got. I've got one of them down here. She said it was OK. Yeah. I've got one of my graduation presents for my mom down here. I'm going to bring up in just a minute. But my graduation trip was to Orlando to this massive Star Trek convention where we got to meet Nimoy. Mm hmm. And that was in ninety four. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm back to Walter. Yeah. I know we're talking all good Star Trek memories. Oh, we're just Trek heavy. Yeah. Talk about this. I mean, this is Bama Geeks. So, I mean, we are going to meander. That is very true. The train does derail from time to time. Well, it's all the time. Right. Yeah. We're going to stay. We'll stay with TOS area stuff. And then. yeah so i i've met all the original series cast members i've met all the origin or the next generation cast members still waiting to meet avery brooks from deep space nine dragon khan i want to say was that one year and i missed him yeah and i missed him and i've not seen him anywhere since um he's the one captain i had the one of the original four captains that i haven't met um kate hasn't been in a while in a year a few years either who Kate Mulgrew. She hasn't been in a few years either. I think that was the last year she, they both, they came that same year and that was the last time they'd been there. I think. Yeah. Um, i went to i've relayed the story before you have to go back and look through some of the old episodes but uh the thirtieth anniversary convention which was thirty years ago now uh was in huntsville and it was held september uh eighth and ninth um and uh all the original cast members were there and we got to uh kate was the same year okay Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Kate, I'm going to get in my Kate story in a second. Um, but, uh, the, the, the entire Voyager kept most, no, not, not the entire, most of the Voyager cast was at the thirtieth anniversary convention there in Huntsville. None of the next generation folks were there because they were getting ready to release first contact. Um, In fact, the movie poster for First Contact was not supposed to be out yet. We weren't supposed to know what the new Enterprise, the Enterprise E was supposed to look like. Suncoast Movies had a booth at that convention and had the poster there. And so I took a picture of it as the first time that the Enterprise E was ever seen in public. I was like, oh my gosh, that looks great. And it was a few weeks after that that they released the trailer and everything where you got to see the promotional stuff where you got to see the Enterprise. But if you bought the Galaxy Pass for that convention, you got to, there was, there were one of the Galaxy Passes available. I was living in Texas at the time in the Air Force. And so I grabbed a Galaxy Pass, came home that weekend, for that uh that convention and you got to eat dinner with all the original series actors i sat right across from jimmy doing scotty i mean it was it was from from me to this monitor was jimmy doing and i sat there and talked to him when he when he didn't have a girl sitting on his lap trying to smooze the women my man i got to talk to him quite a bit But I was at one point I was just out walking around. Of course, the cameras, they confiscated the cameras there at the US Space and Rocket Center. You had to check everything at the desk. We didn't have cell phones or cameras at the time. Majel Barrett Roddenberry, I met her while she was shoving cauliflower into her mouth. I met Jameson Rod, Rod Roddenberry. He was a super nice guy. But I'm out, I decided just to walk to the outside area. Walter Koenig is on the dance floor. Man is cutting moves. I mean, Walter was getting after it. He was having a good time. But I walk outside and Dan Golden, who at the time was the NASA administrator, the head of NASA. I was in satellite communications with the Air Force. And I went outside and started talking to Dan Golden. I'm like, oh my gosh, I have to meet him. And he's like, oh, you're military satellite? Okay, let's talk. You know, just a brief conversation with him. During that time, Buzz Aldrin is standing behind me. Buzz Aldrin's talking to somebody. It was Buzz Aldrin and Alan Shepard. two of the astronauts. Good grief, man. They're in the middle. I'm in the middle of them with Dan Golden. Buzz just throws his hand up, smacks me in the butt, and I turn around and look. I'm like, Mr. Aldrin, no, no, sir. I'm sorry. I'm sorry to be in your way. But just behind them was Kate Mulgrew, you know, Voyager was just coming on the air. She was in this black dress. Good night. She was gorgeous. She was stunning. So I got to talk to her for a minute. That was so fun. I mean, he's in a room with legends here. Yeah, I'm just dropping names tonight. Look, I need to put up the names like Jonathan Frakes and Brent Steiner on their podcast called Dropping Names. Ring the bell with the names coming up. That's what they do. Their podcast is literally called Dropping Names. Brock's just in a room with legends all over the place. I don't know how to tell you this, but I'm kind of a big deal. Dude, I would name drop this con because it was amazing. But yeah, I got to meet DeForest there. That was the only time I got to meet DeForest Kelly. Oh my gosh. That would have been one. That's the only time I ever got to meet him. It was amazing. Shatner and Nimoy really didn't meet people there. So thankfully it got the opportunity. Of course, I'd already met Nimoy by that time. Shatner I'd not met yet until later. But yeah, yeah. That's the con where I met Nichelle Nichols. I met them all. I mean, they were fantastic. Of course, Walter was there again. Got to see him there. It was amazing. You could not have put me into a more euphoric state of mind than that weekend. Oh, man. Top of the world, man. That was the first ever Star Trek convention ever sponsored by Paramount. They had never sponsored a Star Trek con before then. Um, but just amazing. Just, I, I have such a place in my heart for the original crew and the next generation crew. And even if I weren't a star Trek fan, I would be one at that point. If people like that. Yeah. Well, like, it's like, well, you're talking about like it with them. Like it's the show is, you know, it's a product of his time. The show is, you know, it's, it's, it's fun, but the, the movies outside of five are, are amazing. Like, stand alone as they are. The movies are just so good. Like, I just, that's another good comfort watch. Especially the last one, Undiscovered Country. That's still, that's a good comfort watch for me. I don't know why that's, that was such a good thing to send the last, technically their last adventure out. Yeah. yeah that we watched that not not too long ago jess had never seen the the original trek movies for the most part so we marathoned them one weekend so she could get to them and i still have yet to get my kids to watch any star trek they know the characters i know who they are because i'm their dad i understand i've tried to get my son to watch next gen with me it's you know it's it's it's it's a thing it's but like i said that's what we were talking about in our members episode there's so much out there now it's hard to get people to focus on certain things so Yeah, absolutely. So I, I've hogged this, you know, what would the original series memories, uh, in the chat, drop them in there. You guys here with me, like Kevin was talking about, like with, with the, with the voyage home, Walter, especially him, he and the shell Nichols are just their little subplot with them is just wonderful in that movie. I love that movie so much that that is, you know, so far as next gen. And I know we'll talk about this a little bit. You know, we got we all have our movie, our favorite there with First Contact. But for me, it's I don't know the voyage home. I mean, yeah, if I if I wanted like a good spectacle with someone who could match the amount of just just sheer soap opera. as uh shatner you know yeah i'll go with con you know because of course honestly i mean he was freaking soap opera star so of course he's going to be even more cheesy than shatner you know i mean that was he was more over the top one of the only actors that ever was with that you know um but voyage home just something about that movie it's just always comfortable to me. I like that movie a lot. And like Bo said, that subplot of the nuclear vessels, I mean, this was in the middle of the Cold War. So that was a big deal. So people were actually, when this came out, people were actually dealing with this live. It was a thing. So just knowing that, oh my God, there's a Russian trying to break onto a nuclear-powered vessel. You know? Well, then also, I think also with it being at the time that was our then, you know, that then was our, or that then was our now, I'm trying to think how I could word this correctly without doing, doing all this, but yeah, that's what that one's. I think that one's also a little special with a lot of us, you know, just cause like we can connect with it easier. It was like, Hey, Oh yeah, that was, that was, you know, Trek from the future into today at the time. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Do you guys have any other older original movies that were really good with him? I know that was one thing you were talking about, the Wrath of Khan, because originally in the episode, the Space Seed episode, Chekov and Khan never interacted, but he somehow remembered him when they ran him on Alpha Seti III. Yeah. Is that right? Yeah. Yes. Boy, they interacted there. Oh, boy. That earworm thing still gives me nightmares. Yeah. Oh, gosh. That thing is – even though it looks – you're like, yeah, it looks like a prop. It still drives me crazy. Well, what gets me is that if you look at it, I mean, yeah, it looks like a prop, but it also – roaches look like props in a way. In real life, with just the sheen on them, they kind of look like props. They did a good job, but it looks like a roach. It's a roach crawling in your ear. And I will say, TMI for someone who's had one in his ear before, that's not great. No, it's not great. And since we are talking about Walter also, I know his fellow fans would be remiss if I didn't mention his run on Babylon Five. Oh, yes. Like him playing the bad guy. So that's another show I need to rewatch. I used to enjoy that, the reruns of it on Sci-Fi Channel. Yeah. I miss nineties eras to the Sci-Fi Channel. Oh, it's good stuff. Jess, Jamie's right there with you on the Roach Talk. Oh, yeah, please. Yeah, the Wrath of Khan was the first Star Trek movie I saw in the theaters. What motion picture was seventy nine. So I was three. And I vividly remember mom and dad taking me to see Rathacon in the in the theaters because mom and dad like Star Trek, which was if you knew my parents, you know, they're country bumpkins. I have no idea why they like Star Trek, but they got me into it. um well i i bet you i can guarantee you because if you go back and watch a lot of those sixties era western tv shows yeah ninety percent of them with trent because like i'll be watching my father-in-law and like oh there's there's fort the forest oh there's james doohan you know it's it's like oh you could tell them that was produced through the desilu studios i'm like oh okay yeah yeah Yeah, the earworm there was nightmare fuel as a kid. Oh, my gosh. I vividly remember going home that night and not wanting to go to sleep. Mom was like, you need to go to sleep. You got school tomorrow. And I'm like, there's something going to crawl on my ear, Mom. It was paranoia to the max. My skin's just crawling. And I will say of the original movies, it's the best soundtrack. Of all of them. Like the battle music? Oh, yeah, the battle in the nebula, yeah. Oh, my God. I mean, to this day, it's just like, that's literally the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of Wrath of Khan is the, you know, there's the showdown with the ships, and I was like, oh, my God. Just the quality of the, just the cheesiness quality of the acting and just the overacting was just like, I was like, you're used to Shatner being that way with this acting. You get Ricardo Montalbano there, you're like, no one overacts Ricardo. It made me think, I had to think about, we're talking about Walter, one of my other great lines he did, of course, going back to Undiscovered Country is when they're about to have the Klingons over, guess who's coming to dinner? Jamie says, that's like me being named after Jamie Lee Curtis. My parents loved Halloween. Okay, you named me after Jamie Lee Curtis. That's pretty cool. I didn't know that about you. That's amazing. I was named after a random soap opera star that I don't remember. Same here. Young and the Restless. Oh, but yeah. So Walter, uh, fantastic was always, I'll just heard all the wonderful stories about him and he, uh, I know he, like I said, there for a while, he tried to break out, you know, like a lot of them, you know, they wanted to get the, from the typecast of their characters. And then I think they, once they. Once, like I said, like things like convention and stuff, many people realize how much they appreciated him then, you know? Yeah. It's like, it's like Nimoy. I mean, he came out a book with said that was called, I am not Spock. Yeah. And then he came up with a second book after realized, yep, I am Spock. Yeah. Oh, man. But, you know, they didn't act together in Generations, but both Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart, you know. Yeah. That was my first Trek movie in theaters. Really? Yes. It was mine. I've still got my ticket stub. I still have my ticket stuck. I think I do too. Generations is still my all-time viewed movie in the theater out of all movies. I've seen it seven times in the theater. Ghostbusters Afterlife comes in second with six times. First Contact six times. Okay. Yeah. Which also, if you want to talk good soundtracks, the generation soundtrack is amazing too, Kevin. That opening sequence is so good. The scene where they're in the Nexus and the Christmas music. Yes. That music brings tears to my eyes. I'll listen to that soundtrack all day long. That might be even more tear jerking if we watch it now with us losing Sir Patrick. well you know and it was on like pluto has a star trek channels they show all they they've got star trek channels for every series and then right now of course they're running the they're running the next gen movies uh back to back so you know we were just around the house and we were about to we were about to make plans to go eat lunch. And what did I do? I just turned on generations and Brock says, why are you doing this to me? That's a movie forever. My top five. I love generations. So I see that you don't want to go anywhere. Okay. We're just going to sit here and watch this. We got to lunch about one thirty yesterday. We were late. I went ahead and started getting ready, and he enjoyed the rest of the movie while I was getting ready. Oh, man. No, that one's good. You passed the torch. I don't care. Yeah, that's exactly why. I don't care what naysayers did that movie say. it's you as having three of the original cast members in there you've got kirk and picard together in scenes together you will never break me from the love of that the two favorite captains but um patrick stewart what can you say there's not much you can't say the man was amazing uh And I will say, you know, when we were, I did not realize that Bo had not opened up his internet. Yeah. I was at work that day, busy. Yeah, sorry. Sorry about that, Bo. I said, repeat that last part again, please. Apparently, I broke the news to quite a few people, too, when I talked about it. I think it was one of those ones where people were just so stunned. He's like, they say in Marvel, he's kind of like our anchor being, in a way. He's an amazing... He's been in everything, you know? Yeah. I mean, he's touched different fandoms in multiple different places. So the versatility in his career, you know, it just... That voice. That voice. That baritone, yes. And that's like somebody was talking about, which I guess, don't get me wrong, this is no discredit to the other actors in Next Gen, but I believe, like I said, a lot of people say it was a lot of him carrying is what, you know, I think really made it successful, especially looking back on his performance on a lot of things. Yeah, yeah. and i think gene roddenberry didn't want to give him a chance because he was bald yeah he was hung up on the bald thing yeah right tried to get him to wear a wig and he's like no had the week shipped over yeah and he was someone had the wig shipped to him to do the reading in the wig and they quickly told him no lose the wig yeah this isn't working That only works for Walter. Okay. And barely. And Kirk. And Shatner. But wow. Brock and I were in the middle of chatting with each other. Jamie says he can read the alphabet and I want to listen to every syllable. There's been so many great clips that I've forgotten about with him. I've seen a bunch of clips from when he was on Sesame Street that time where he's saying B or not A B. Yeah. And there was another great clip with him in the count where the number one is messing around. And then he's like, I know something about this. Make it so, number one. And then the number one gets in line. It's wonderful. Oh. Well, Patrick. Golly. I mean, it's still hard to say. It's like Patrick Stewart has passed away. Yeah. The shirt that I'm wearing tonight, of course, I mean, I'm an Alabama alum, but one of my coworkers came into my office on Monday and showed this to me and said, we've got to get these. This is amazing because look what it looks like. You know, looks like from generations on Star Trek. And I was like, she's a massive Star Trek fan as I am. And I said, that's amazing. So I went ahead and ordered this. This came in Friday. ordered it. But during that, during the week, Patrick Stewart dies. And so I broke the news to her. I texted her down the hallway and I'm like, Hey, don't look, but Patrick Stewart. And she wrote back, Oh no, just devastated. And she's, she's one who loves next generation, loves Patrick Stewart. We'll go to conventions not often. So she didn't have any memorabilia or whatever. And I couldn't help, but, I felt bad for it. I'm like, she's got nothing. And this is one of her main guys. So thankfully I had, when he came out with this autobiography in. He had, they released a limited number of signed copies and I was able to get my hands on two of them. So I went in Friday morning and I said, you don't have anything from Patrick to you. She said, no, I don't. And I pulled the book out from behind my back and I said, now you do. She's like, I can't take this. I'm like, you will take this. You love this man. And if there's anything that I can give you that has a connection to him, please take it. And so that was she's she's also not one that shows a lot of emotion. And she immediately hugged me. I was like, oh, man, Patrick has that that power. yeah he he was one of those like i said like how much we lost dolly earlier in the year you know there was nobody that had a bad thing to say about him like as for him he is he is he's everybody has a great memory of patrick be one way or another star trek uh x-men i mean um i used to talk about sesame street and also like i've seen so many great clips i'd forgotten about from his episode of saturday night live salt and pepper yes dude that saturday night live i burned my copy out that i recorded that night yes yeah star trek the love boat the love boat yeah oh my god the uh the i forgot one of the sketches i'd forgot that's which i will go to in the detail but this the uh the uh the sexy cakes sketch if you don't yes yes yes the sexy cakes oh yeah there was that one there's another one he's a devil and his minions is very good like i've seen a bunch of them that's been hilarious yeah Deep South Media HQ, welcome in. Hello, welcome. If the rumors are true about the fate of Professor X and the upcoming Avengers Doomsday, I haven't heard anything about it, but this is Patrick's last film. It's going to be even harder to watch. If it is, it'll be the third time, but I hope it's a much better one, which Brock, I know you love Wanda, but... I didn't like how Wanda did X in Multiverse, but hey, that's just me. Yeah, you know. I know, I know. That's what I'm saying here. Is it weird that when Patrick, Pat, we learned that he passed, the first person I thought of was Sir Ian McKellen? Yes. Those guys. So many photos together and they're thick as thieves, you know. oh yeah anything you see with the two of them together never disappoints oh they were hilarious and they were such good friends like it was like even though like they're people you don't really know on a personal level but you could just look at them and be like those are some best buds like they're right at the same age aren't they yes i believe so yeah yeah i know somebody i did see somebody who said did somebody check on ian somebody please check on ian right now let everybody know he's all right yeah he released a statement and then he he released a reflection and then it was very thoughtful wonderful tribute yeah oh all his all his co-stars and stuff everything like that's from hugh jackman talking about his touching tribute he did yeah yeah Yeah. And my heart broke. Marina Sirtis. Yes. I was about to say that hers was. Two videos. She had to do two videos. That first one with Walter, she's bawling her eyes out. I'm like, I feel my heart went out to her. And then two or three days later, had to do the same thing for one of her closest people. Oh my gosh. Uh, just unbearable. Yeah. Uh, her story about how he was the one of the only ones that, that came to her during COVID after her husband passed. Yeah. You know, and then just that whole story was just like, you could just tell how much he meant to her. Yeah. And then it was, man. That whole next gen cast, man, that is a strong bond. They do. Yeah. They felt like a family. Yeah. That's what I was going to say. You can, it, I mean, to see a cast that bonded so well and still to this, till this day, it's like, they, they don't. you know, it was like a cast where there was no egos in the way there was no, you know, in inflated entitlement among them. They were just, they were a bonded group and they were champion for each other. Their chemistry on, on the, on the show, on the movies, it's just unspeakable. And just to have that. And like you said, even still to this day, you know, we're coming up on the fortieth anniversary next year of, of next gen that, that, that will blow your mind. Um, yeah, but yeah, it's so, uh, I know that I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Patrick. Bo's had the pleasure. I was with Bo when he met him. The first time I got to meet him was in Dragon Con, as we mentioned earlier. And for some of y'all, this will be the first time seeing my ex-wife. But there we are. That's me, sixty pounds ago, with Sir Patrick Stewart, Dragon Con of . They only allowed two hundred people to have this photo opportunity with them that year. They capped it at two hundred people and it was a late addition. We were already going to go to Dragon Con, but when they said, oh, by the way, Patrick Stewart is going to be here and we've got a special opportunity for two hundred people. I immediately jumped on that. Yeah, immediately. but uh and i also mentioned earlier my mom took me to orlando for my high school graduation to meet lynda nimoy and uh one of the things she also got me for my high school graduation if you've watched qbc back in the mid-nineties yeah his mom loved qb mom was a qbc addict but qbc had a a partnership uh partnership with this company and they were able to get, you know, autograph plaques and stuff like that. So they're signed by Patrick. Oh man. That was the first, this was the first next gen. No, no, no. This was the second next gen autograph I had because of my very first Star Trek convention in ninety three, John Delancey was at. And so he signed a book. Oh, his his tribute was also very. Oh, I haven't seen his. Oh yeah. I haven't seen his. but since, since this, I've been able to, like I said, I've met everybody on the next gen cast and I've got a cast photo signed by everybody through meeting them. So that's, that is a prized possession that's safely guarded. Yeah. Did you, uh, you, you had the, or is it still in your audit, your book? Um, the one you wrote off when you wrote the letter. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, I wrote my senior year of high school. I started sending off letters to studios, to different actors. Um, I wrote one, even to David Letterman. Uh, I wrote one and got back an autographed picture from David Letterman. Um, uh and then i wrote one to patrick stewart and never expected to hear anything back as he's patrick stewart you know at the time and and next gen was wrapping up i graduated high school the day next generation went off the air the day all good things premiered um But I wrote a letter to Patrick Stewart and just told him how much I loved his work over the years and really appreciate what he did with Captain Picard. And I went off into the Air Force. And then a year and a half after I sent that letter off, mom called me and said, you've got a big envelope here from Paramount Studios. I'm like, what are you talking about? You know, I'd totally forgotten about it. And she goes, I don't know. And so I came home one weekend and opened it up and it was an autographed picture to me from Patrick Stewart. Oh, nice. One of his promo headshots. Jamie, has anyone met Will Wheaton? Yes. I met Will and Gates McFadden for the first time at DragonCon. In fact, in that same folder over there is a picture. I had the photo op of Will and Gates and myself. Shut up, Wesley. Shut up, Wesley. my gosh that reminded me of that tweet that he put out one time yeah that said he doesn't like or what what was the the phrase oh i can't remember the context of it i'm so tired of people telling me to shut up or i'll block you if you if you tweet at me shut up wesley or whatever i'll block you and then patrick stewart tweeted adam shut up will you can't block the man okay yeah he had his way with words like it's like i've seen so many great things with like with him like i saw there was a uh a good video with him in the ricky gervais where he was talking about uh talking about you know did you did you watch star trek or whatever and he's like no because you're so the wife won't let you no i'm not married oh your girlfriend no i'm married he's like so you're a single man and you've not seen star trek good lord Just the amazement on his face. I don't know if I'm frozen or if I'm just a black screen. You're frozen. The computer flashed or blinked. Well, just get back. At least it's a good face to be frozen on. Oh, okay. I wasn't making a funny face, though. Not this time. Okay. All right. Deep South Media HQ says, in retrospect, after seeing all the reactions from the cast, you each have different attitudes toward the final season of the Picard series. Oh, dude. Final season of Picard. Oh, God. Look, Brock squealed like a little girl when that first shot of the Enterprise. And, yeah, it was very emotional in this household. I will forever adore the final season of Picard. Oh, it's so worth it. Yeah. That, that was what I was waiting on. Yes. I was going to bring up at some point here in the, in the discussion about the, about Picard and it's in particular, the, the, the final season. Oh, it was, it was the proper send off just because like I said, nemesis is an okay movie, but it was such a bad way to end there. Nemesis was a terrible way to end the next gen movies. Yeah. Jamie said that Will's the only one from the bridge that she's missing. Well, hopefully we get to meet him. I know he will not come back to Dragon Con. He's got something against Dragon Con from what I read. Hopefully we can get him. He's still doing the cons. He's still doing the cons. So what were you going to say, Jess? I'm sorry, what was I going to say? Something about the final season? No, just bringing that up. I wanted to kind of bring that up because like you said, that was to me, again, the proper way to send that cast off. And in a sense... get a closure i guess in a way and and a proper goodbye yeah i think yeah when when we saw uh gates mcfadden and john delancey uh and brent spiner uh at in huntsville two three years ago now yeah uh when they were just wrapping up yeah uh they just finished the third season of picard it just aired And we talked to all of them about it. And John Delancey in particular had some good things to say about the final season of Picard. Not so much about the first two seasons. Right. Right. Rightfully so. I mean, and I, and I get that. Yeah. it wasn't that it, it wasn't a bad series. I enjoyed the series, but that, that, but final season, it just, it, it was, it was the cherry on top of the cake for sure. Honey, have you tried getting back in? No, um, I could try to sign out and come back in. Yeah. Pop out and come back in. All right. I mean, we can still hear you cause you're feeding into my microphone. Um, but yeah, um, You there? Yeah. Yeah. So you can still hear. I am coming through. But not my attitude for the third season of Picard has not changed. I loved it. And I'm not sure I've seen all the reactions from everybody. I've been so enamored with just people talking about patrick stewart the person that i've not yeah i've not really paid attention to see if anybody said anything about the the final season of ricard yeah well i mean that's what you mean he's transcended so far beyond being you know you know that the face of the modern star trek as we know it at least our generation as we we knew it that i mean he's done so much more than that that it's like he's he's touched so much I mean, honestly, yeah. First thing I think of him is, you know, obviously Captain Picard. Yeah, of course. But he's, I mean, God, he helped write Marvel, you know, with X-Men. I mean, he's just so much he's touched that's just beyond Star Trek. He's got his theater career, you know, doing all the theater work. I mean, he's amazing. And, of course, you know, he being known for the Christmas Carol. Yeah. That's, yeah. Fantastic. Oh, and, of course, they mentioned it, Dune, as well. Dune? Yes. You're right. Yeah, Dune. Yeah. Gosh. I mean, he's been in some form or media, something you like one way or another. Mm-hmm. And I talk about the things and tributes I've seen, which is also this kind of pays into something else. I saw where the Buckingham Palace, the band, they played the TOS theme instead of Next Gen as a tribute for him, which a lot of people said he would have laughed at that and enjoyed that, which I could see him there. But I saw a video of him, I think it was like, two thousand one, two thousand two, when he was in Michigan doing like a Shakespearean production. He actually directed the Michigan's band at halftime. They had him as a director. Oh, yeah. I think I saw something on that, too. Yeah. That's awesome. Yes. Because I think they were doing a Star Trek show that year. It just happened to be a happy coincidence. Yeah. Hmm. But, yeah, like I said, he's just one of those guys, like nobody has anything bad to say about him. You never heard of him any kind of being, you know, any kind of bad interactions with people. He was all, you know, never heard of him in any kind of scandalous thing. You know, he was Patrick Stewart. He was just a good guy. Yeah. The only thing even remotely scandalous he had was he married a younger woman. So did I. On my ten months, but still, she's younger. But I mean, like, it's Patrick Stewart. I don't really even thought anything of it, honestly. No, no. I mean, like, with his friendship with, you know, with Ian, you know, being supportive of his friend, and he was never brash about it. He was always supportive of his friend with Ian and everything with everything with... with how he how it goes with him so i mean you know he was well he married them yeah yeah he married them originally i read the story and married them originally in nevada but then they realized when they realized that his his um minister credentials weren't valid in nevada then they got married in like a restaurant or something i think a mexican restaurant I didn't know that. I hadn't heard that story. That's amazing. They will do it right then. Apparently Nevada is really strict about, you know, like your credentials and, you know, I mean, if you're going to get, you know, if a state that allows, you know, Elvis to marry, you know, they got to have some clearly. I mean, it is the wedding capital of the world. So, yeah. So if, if, if they wound up getting married in a Mexican restaurant, please tell me they allowed dancing and did the salsa. Could you imagine it just having Patrick Stewart walk in and, you know, with his wife and, and they're like, yeah, we can, we just take this corner over here and get married. Cause we just, we just realized we weren't married and we just need to get married. Yeah, sure. Do you want, do you guys want chips and salsa? I want to know how did his initial proposal, did he ask, did you want to engage? I did see a fan video where this guy proposed to his girlfriend in front of Patrick Stewart. And he just clapped and went, engaged. Oh, nice. I was like, oh, that's brilliant. Oh, that's wonderful. That's wonderful. oh man there was a uh kevin you may have played this game uh lands of lore um it was a medieval rpg oh yeah i heard some people talking about that yeah that came out in the in the mid-nineties and they had of course the on the floppy disks the three and a quarter floppy disks but you know back then they didn't do a lot of voices because of the space limitations on those floppies and so if you wanted lands of lore with sir patrick stewart doing the voiceovers for one of the like the king you had to buy the cd version i had to search up and down for a cd-rom player because i didn't have one at the time i bought a cd-rom player just to get the patrick stewart voiced version of the game you can get it now on steam with you know that version I'm going to have to look that up now. I love games like that. Yeah, Lands of Lore. In fact, he says it when the game's coming out. Lands of Lore. You know, Brent Spiner does a very good impression of him, too. Oh, yes. It's like there's been several times we were just kind of watching a little recap before we came on the podcast, the Dropping Names podcast. They kind of did a little compilation of videos where guests have been on, you know, talking about their interactions and things having to do with Patrick. And, of course, every time Brent would speak, you know, what Patrick would say, he would always, you know, use the Patrick voice. So, yeah. He might be one of the few actors where he has been in movies where he has acted with a younger version of him more than anyone I can think of. If you think about it. Of course, it's Professor X, both versions of him in Days of Future Past. And then, of course, really it technically isn't his younger self, but it's a clone with Nemesis with Tom Hardy. Right. I'm trying to think where else. Well, I mean, there's a couple of... You know, episodes of Next Gen where there was a younger Picard, you know, tied into a story. I'm sitting here deep diving through his IMDb and there's a couple of stuff in here I need to watch now. I did not know he played Captain Ahab in a miniseries of Moby Dick. Not shocking. Yeah. Right? Yeah. Captain Ahab's got to find his white whale. Mm-hmm. lately from first contact. So we've we've touched on we're butting up against an hour here. We touched on Oh, Patrick and Walter. Here was the other gentleman. Oh, we were talking about the episode of Next Gen, The Inner Light. Yeah. Which is a fantastic episode. Man, that one will really get you in the heart for sure. But the gentleman that played his friend in that episode. Richard. What was his last name, Richard? I'm looking it up. Played his friend. Richard R-I-E-H-L-E. Real? Yeah. Played Batai? Batai, yeah. He passed away a couple of days before Patrick did. So it's kind of weird. It's like, boy, they were friends. They did that episode and they died within just a couple of days of each other. A day or two of each other. Yeah. And if you don't remember Richard, he was also in Office Space. One of the Bobs, right? Yeah. Oh, that's right. No, no, no, no. He was the guy that did the jump to conclusions map. That's right. That also tried to kill himself in the garage until his wife come home and caught him. He's a people person, darn it. That's right. I have people skills. Golly, I can't remember his name now. Office space, and that's just terrible. Don't take my office space card from me. Well, you know, let's see. While you do that, I'll look up here on IMDb. But there was also a gentleman who was in the original series that played Apollo in... Ah, heck. Which episode was it? Witcher Real? Yeah, that's the... He played Tom. Tom, that's right. Tom Worszkowski or something like that. Mike Wokowski. Yeah, something like that. Hang on a second. I'm having to look it up. The fourth guy played Apollo in the original series in one of the episodes. Oh, what was his name? What was his name? Of course that. Anyway, he played Apollo in the original series. The article that I was looking at has now got it blocked off for subscribers only and I ain't paying. I ain't got no time for that. I just wanted a name. You said Michael Forrest? Yeah, I think that's him. Yeah. So, yeah, it's been a rough couple of weeks for Star Trek. just, uh, yeah. Let's just slow down a little bit. Most of us of our, you know, early, late seventies, eighties childhood. Now, you know, we're losing too many icons from our, our younger days. Well, one thing I was telling, I was telling my wife earlier, um, about this is that one of the, one of the things, and I'm totally butchered this, there's, there's a really good quote for it, but one of the things about growing old is, is that you get to watch all of your heroes yeah yeah you get that you get to watch that i mean that's because these are the people that we grew up with these are the people that taught us a lot of times taught us values uh challenged us emotionally challenged us um intellectually and um you know it's really hard to it sometimes it's really easy to forget that they're human a lot of times they're a lot older than us Yeah. And that just, you know, the, you know, the older you get, the more that, that, that gets stacked against you. And so, so you're, you're going to see that you're going to see that more and more often. And, you know, we're here to share the pain with you guys. yeah absolutely we'll celebrate the joy rather than the share of the pain yeah right deep south media hq says also today was announced for doctor who fans the original voice of canine has passed really john john lesson oh goodness gosh that's terrible wow dang stop stop beating on and it's the funny thing he just he just did that he just said that i have read it up over here and i literally john lesson the voice of canine has passed away at Oh my gosh. Man, stop beating up on sci-fi Grim Reaper. We're taking a beating enough as it is right now. You've got to leave the rest of the... You've got to leave Shatner and Takei alone. I know they're up there, but the rest of the Next Gen cast, leave them alone for a long, long time. We still want to have a couple more years of enjoyment of them still being in you know, and hopefully I, I hope that, uh, you know, like I said, with the next gen anniversary coming up in the next year, you know, that, you know, opportunities. Cause I'm still, I'm, I'm trying to, I'm trying to, Brock's already met him. He's, he's already been through that, but I'm still, I'm trying to catch up. So I'm trying to catch up on my next gen meets and I gotta meet Frakes. I mean, I've, I've passed him up. He's been at conventions and I'm like, okay. Yeah. i'm not doing it i gotta i gotta meet him at some point and uh lavar oh yes yeah lavar was supposed to be in huntsville this last year but he had to cancel so I never will forget that interaction. Oh, yes. Oh, well, if you watch that particular with the YouTube was the YouTube series, right? Yeah. Yeah. Brent. They always talked about and Brent said Brent told us he will never reveal what the secret was that got him kicked out of Hollywood on that on that YouTube show that he did. But at one point, he meets up with LeVar in a park, and LeVar pops open the trunk of his car to give him some money to try to help him out. And as Brent's walking away, LeVar goes, at least I'm not Brent Spiner. And then Bo and I, when we met LaVar again at Dragon Con, we told him how much we loved that scene. LaVar, he looks around and goes, at least I'm not MF and Brent Spiner. And I was like, you wouldn't say that on Reading Rainbow. But for the humor of it, but as Jamie said, yes, LeVar's an awesome guy. He is. As we talk about all the Next Gen cast, everyone I've met has been great. Like when we met Gates at Huntsville, my son was there with me. She spent more time talking to him than me, and that actually made me happy just because he has that memory now. Yeah, yeah. I got to talk to her for a few minutes, but she asked me how old he was, what school grade he was in and everything. It was a fun. Once again, coming back, maybe that's one reason why they're such a good close-knit family group is they're good people. She knows that, I'm sure. She's been doing it a while, so she knows that odds are this is core memory-making stuff here. Yeah. And, of course, Brent was a delight. Oh, yeah. Brent's a hoot. Gosh, he was so awesome. The first time I met Jonathan Frakes at Drag Hunt, which was a table, and I'm wearing my Ghostbusters flight suit. Yeah. And I said, hey, Jonathan. No, this is the second time I met him. I walked up and said, hey, Mr. Frakes, just wanted to meet you again. It was wonderful to see you the last time. He looks at me and goes, you weren't wearing that last time, were you? Yeah. he's like all right he's like i would have remembered that yeah it's it's fun meeting some of the actors in your costume well you know and uh marina's my first time to meet marina was yeah was it was memory for us was was one that i will never i mean that was that was she she was just like because marina saucy yeah she was very and brock and i were in anna and kristoff costume when we met her so you know i wasn't you know looking like my normal self or whatever but this is before we were married we were getting we were just engaged So we were talking with her about, you know, us to go. She was asking about us, you know, just getting kind of getting to know us. And then she said, Brock, may I counsel you? He's like, well, I'm honored. Troy's going to counsel me. Absolutely. So she looks at Brock and looks at me and says. She said she is gorgeous. Yeah. Talking about me. Yeah. Which I was like, what are you talking about? I'm sitting here talking to you, Counselor Troy, one of the most beautiful women on TV growing up, you know. She followed that up with? She was like, she's gorgeous. Don't you F this up. Yes, ma'am. I will do my best. There you go, man. You're locked in now. So if I ever meet her again, you know, I will try to kind of like go back to that moment and says he hasn't yet. So everything's going very well. You know, he took your advice to heart. Counselor Troy. uh yeah she's uh yeah her her video was just just absolutely she's just heartbroken you know yeah jamie says i literally lost the ability to talk when i met lavar burton my husband had to tell lavar my name they kind of do that to you you get caught up in that you get caught up with them yeah Oh, yeah. LaVar is awesome. Yeah. Maybe I'll get a chance to hopefully. I hope so. Get him off my checklist. He's wonderful. Yeah. They're all wonderful. Next Gen Cast is amazing. Yeah. Absolutely amazing. But yeah, I'm glad we've had some good, fun times to talk tonight about them. It's certainly heartbreaking. When Walter was announced last week, it ruined my day because of the interactions I had with him. Uh, and then two or three days later with Patrick just wrecked, wrecked the entire thing. And, and, you know, still to this day, all my, my social media feeds, whenever I hop on, which I'm not on terribly much anymore, uh, has all been Patrick, Patrick, Patrick, Patrick everywhere. Yeah, it's AT touched a lot of lives and and holds a special place in many hearts for many different reasons. Yeah. As we've said, covered a lot of fandoms in our life and just got so much enjoyment out of his performances. And, you know, like I said, it's just it's it's he's just one that in this and in like minded people like us in our community, he holds a special place in our heart somewhere. And you know, so yeah. you were watching a master at his craft. I mean, it's absolutely. Yeah. Watching Picasso paint, all that type of stuff. You know, it's, he was, he was an incredible actor. I was like, you know, he's every, everybody takes report, you know, yeah, we've lost, you know, the actor Captain Picard, but his performance is always there. Well, I will tell you this Brock. I've never played it before, but you mentioned it earlier, but I am downloading lands of war, the throne of chaos right now. And I'm going to play it. I want to, I want to hear him in it. In his honor. Steam does not have it by the way GOG does. You can get it and the original for like three dollars. It's amazing. Nice. I got it off Steam a few years ago. Yeah. Okay. Well, any final thoughts? Like I said, it's good. Like I said, he was talking about some of his deliveries. It's one of my good Picard lines. I don't use it very often if somebody wants to kind of challenge me. We'll test that assumption at your earliest convenience. So that's always one of my favorite Picard lines. I like to keep in check. But yeah, it's... Hate to see them go. We understand we're all human. Each of us have our time. It's just, you know, it's sad to lose them. But, you know, remember the good times. Yeah. If they weren't great, it wouldn't hurt if they weren't great. Well, yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Now, Bo, you didn't talk about your time meeting him. I mean, it was good. It was really quick. Unfortunately, my pitcher, he was, I had to find it. He was not ready for my pitcher. They, you know, I normally, I'm not the one ready for it, but he's, he's kind of like at a weird position. Like he's talking to me, but not so, but it was, that's one memory I have of him, but it was good. Like I said, I was very, it was very, it was very good. Like I said, it was cool. I got him to sign a photo. The photo I got signed though, is him and his little cutest get up, which was, you know, so. That was cool. I got to meet him that one time. I know he came back one more time after then, but at the time, I was like, well, I didn't meet him. You know, don't have to do it again now. Looking back, I hate I didn't, but it is what it is. So, yeah, like I said, like you were talking about, like I said, you know, meet these guys. Like you say, if we're losing them, you know, if you have the chance, you know, I understand it can be very pricey, but if you can, do it. Even if sometimes you don't even have to get a photo or an autograph, just walk to the table and talk to that person. Talk to that actor that made a character that made a difference in your life. It might be one of the main stories they hear, but you need to tell them that for yourself. That's going to be a memory you remember. Hey, I talked to him and told him this is how it made me feel. I don't have as much impressiveness there as what Brock was throwing out earlier with him being in the room with all those... look i will never forget sitting down with my then wife uh talking to um uh now x but uh talking to um uh retrolet parmentier who played admiral mahdi at omegacon back so so many years ago just being able to sit down and just have a discussion with him knowing that this guy was a big star he was in indiana jones and and you know, he was huge back in the day and just being able to just sit down and just talk to him like a normal person over, over a drink. Um, that was, I mean, that's something that's core memory stuff. I'll never forget that. So I agree with you, Bo, if you ever have the chance to have a run in or just have a, just a quick, yeah, just an interaction. Just yeah. It's an interaction. It could be something that would spark a huge memory for you. They may remember, they may not remember, but like I said, it's, it's, it's, you gotta be a little selfish there. You gotta do that for yourself. Yeah. Yeah. And also Brock, I just thought about you was talking about your, you know, your, your big group, the gathering there and Buzz Aldrin, you know, patting you on the rear, be like, Hey, easy, sir. You're only allowed one moon landing. Okay. Oh man. That would have been great. Wow. You had a core memory with him. Yeah. Jamie said, you know, losing her ability to say hi to LeVar or mention her name to LeVar. I couldn't say anything to Buzz Aldrin. Excuse me, sir. I'm sorry for being in your way. I am just a mere person. You're, you're the man who has gone into space, you know, on the moon and you know, all. Yeah. So I am just a wee humble person over here. To quote Zefram Cochran from first contact, you're all like some sort of astronauts on some Star Trek. Well, I'm, you know, and I'll, I will, you know, my dad was a Star Trek and that's what brought me into, I mean, I, you know, I kind of saw more of the original series episodes growing up and we had the movies. I had seen bits and pieces of the movies. I knew the gist of the movies and the characters, but you know, like Brock said, we, we did sit down and go through all the original series movies and, uh, But, you know, really, it came down, you know, I was more tuned in to my dad and I watching Next Gen as it was happening and taking place. And so I am very thankful for my dad to introduce that into my life. And so that kind of has a special, you know. connection there. And the Patrick Stewart passing away was just, you know, it's like I said, it just like all of us, it touches a special place in your heart for, for some reason. And I just always saw that, you know, just saw him as a captain and just that, that role in that leadership that he was in that role. It just meant so much to me. It's just somebody I felt like I could always get behind. I would always champion for that man right there. Yeah. Yeah. Deep South Media HQ. Whatever you do, it is celebrity sighting. Just don't squeal like Bo watching Kesha at Tumor's Corner. Or was it Brock I saw? It was me. I was working at Auburn at the time when Kesha was. I don't remember squealing at Kesha. I remember not being able to stand it. That might have been the squeal. Kesha was awful. That concert. Yeah. Nick Jonas, Nelly, and Kesha. Wow, that's a solid lineup for back then. Yeah, I was working at Auburn University back then. But there was a big concert that was held there in Toomer's Corner. And I actually got to go backstage and meet Nelly that night, which was really cool. It was right after he got arrested for something in Nashville, but he still made the show. What year was this? This was in the early two thousands, wasn't it? No, this was ten years ago. so now i'm wondering who you are oh oh oh intrigue yeah you don't have to reveal your real name on here um but uh no uh twenty what was it twenty fifteen yeah yep yep um Yeah, Nick Jonas was wonderful. Nellie was incredible. Kesha, there were a lot of kids in the crowd, and Kesha was dropping a lot of words that she shouldn't with that many kids. And it was very loud. I mean, it was just radiating all over the neighborhood. Yeah, downtown Auburn, I should say. But I did enjoy Kesha. Nick was good. Nick Jonas was real good. Nellie was awesome. I was there for Nellie. So... Well, we've thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing about Walter and Sir Patrick and just Trek in general tonight. That's my number one fandom, first and foremost.
